ACTIVITIES 2012-2013


2012-2013 Activities

ELEMENTARY STUDENTS K-5

Academic Day: Academic Days are combined social studies, science, and writing workshops for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Students meet on Wednesdays from 9:00-11:30. This class is designed to support what the student is learning at home.

Performing Arts: During fall semester Pee Wee Glee k-5 and Tone Chimes 6th and up is offered on Wednesdays from 11:30-12:45. Students perform at the December talent show.

Performing Arts: In December, students wishing to participate in the spring musical will audition for parts (optional) and begin rehearsal.  Rehearsals begin in January and are on Wednesdays from 11:30-12:45 and Fridays from 2:15-4:15. Some additional weekday and Saturday practices may be required.  


Elective Wheel: Each Friday from 1:00-2:15 different topics will be taught including art, technology, thematic units, and cooking.


Chess: (2nd grade and up) Learn to play chess and challenge your classmates! This is offered the 2nd and 4th Friday of the Parkview month from 11:45- 1:00.

Field Activities: Nation Ball and soccer are just a few of the activities that students can participate in on the first and third Friday of the month from 11:45-1:00.

Vendors:
Discovery Science is held weekly on Fridays from 11:45 to 1:00 pm and is fee based.  Discovery Science is a hands-on science workshop designed for students Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Some projects will take multiple weeks to build and test.  Discovery Science flyers are available in the office.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Academic Day:
Science, Composition, and Literary Analysis are offered on Wednesday from 12:45-3:15. Each class is 50 minutes in length. These courses compliment and support at home learning.

Academic Day Honors:
This course is designed with the GATE/ high achiever student in mind and is offered the same day and time as our traditional Academic Day. Regular attendance and on-time submission of all assignments is required and necessary to support the platform of this course. Sixth grade students will attend the traditional Academic Day earth science class and then join the 7th and 8th grade students for composition and literary analysis. *extensive reading and writing is required


Middle School Nixon Geography class is offered on the first and third Friday of the month from 11:45-1:00. Only 7th grade participates in the actual Nixon Geography Quiz, but all 6th-8th grade students may attend.

Leadership: Leadership is offered to 6th grade students and above the 2nd and 4th Friday of the Parkview month from 1:00-2:15. Students will have the opportunity to attend a local CASL conference.

A-g Spanish- We are pleased to offer a support class for A-g Spanish  the 2nd and 4th Friday of the Parkview month from 11:45-1:00. Please see you teacher for more information.


Math Tutoring:
Mrs. Raasch, our math specialist, will assist students in Pre-Algebra. She will be here every Friday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. in room 704. Students should bring their math book with them for tutoring.

High School

High School Writing Workshop: Master the different writing genres using Step Up to Writing and IEW techniques. This class is offered the 2nd and 4th Friday of the Parkview month from 10:30-11:45.

High School Wet Labs: All high school students enrolled in either Chemistry or Biology at Parkview are required to attend wet labs. This is offered Friday of week 1 and 3 from 10:30-11:45.
